Mir Taqi Mir

Join us on Monday 11th July for an Urdu poetry session on Mir's ghazals. Mir Taqi Mir (1723–1810) is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and prolific poets of Urdu literature, authoring six collections (diwan) of Urdu poetry. He is also widely considered the finest ghazal poet in Urdu, earning him the title Khuda-e-Sukhan (god of poetry). This session encourages readers to move away from the idea of Mir as simply a lovelorn poet.

The session will be led by Tasnim Firdaus, Director of Language & Literature Programmes at The Mehfil. Tasnim's academic interests include classical Urdu and Persian poetry, and Persian in the Indus valley. Tasnim has worked as a lecturer of Persian and Urdu language and literature in Pakistan and has a teaching career spanning over 30 years.

The session will be held on Monday 11th July from 7 pm to 9 pm. Venue: Maida Vale, London (W9). Tickets are £15 and are available to purchase here. Knowledge of Urdu is required - material will be provided in Urdu and Romanised Urdu.

***Refreshments will be provided. Doors open at 6.45 pm, and the session will begin promptly at 7 pm***
