The Mehfil is delighted to be hosting a special screening of ANIMA STATE followed by a Q+A with the film's director Hammad Khan on 22 March at 504 Arch in Brixton.
ANIMA STATE is the second feature film from Hammad Khan ('Slackistan'). Set in contemporary Pakistan, a masked gunman goes on a murderous rampage and discovers that nobody cares to stop him. When he tries to get onto a TV channel to make a name for himself, his world starts to unravel…
Khan conducts an uncomfortable, in-your-face examination of Pakistan: from its violence to its apathy to its refusal to recognise its moral corruption. He takes on the media, politics, religion and even sports, in a way that scrutinises and implicates everyone, including the viewer.
